<< Big surprise! Holy shit! >>

A lot of things are happening in East Asia. I have so many things to share with you.
But today, unlike usual, I decided to share with you a different theme.

About a couple days ago, I was internet-surfing in the middle of night as usual and was watching Japanese Pop music in 80s on YouTube.
Unlike China and South Korea, Japan has been welcoming Western culture (especially American culture) since old time so that many famous western musicians such as Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin have been visiting Japan for concerts since old time but none of them ever visited South Korea before even China, Rolling Stones didn’t visit until recently.
That’s how Japanese Pop music was developed strongly being influenced by western music and culture so that the history of J POP is very long.

You might know K-POP (Korean music) but it was all 100% Japanese made. Korea had no POP music culture until recently.
All western cultures (music, movies) had been blocked in South Korea until around year 2,000. Only recently Japanese music industry began supplying Japanese music to South Korea and Korea kept buying J-POP and began to sell them under the name K-POP. Even today, Koreans can’t make pop music so they have to rely on Japanese music composers.

Anyway, back in 80s, there were great western musicians such as Guns’n Roses, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Motley Crue, Aero Smith, Def Leppard, KISS, U2, etc., Japan always loved Rock music but also loved American Oldies.

This is a list of American Oldies most of Japanese people above the age 40s know.

(35:00) This is very famous oldies in Japan.

Although when I listen to American Oldies, it always reminds me of the big hit movie “Christine”. Hahaha

Now, I’ll show you an interesting music group which was famous in Japan during 80’s and 90’s.
See the attached picture.
This music group was called “Rats & Star” in the beginning, then they changed their name to “Chanel’s” later.
You can see their faces were painted in black.
I was still an early teen during 80s watching this music group on TV. And none of people gave damn about why they put on black facial cream although a lot of people including myself thought it was strange. Nobody thought that they had anything to do with Black musicians. But I know now they had an intention mimicking Black musicians. It was in a good way Black musicians were respected by many Japanese musicians when they compose their music.
Chuck Berry was a favored famous musician in Japan in the old days too. But nobody had connection between Black musicians and Chanel’s in Japan.
It was just like rock music band “KISS” in the US. They put on make-up of White cream and paints but people would accept it without second thought, right?  Just like that, Japanese people thought that it was strange make-up but it might be the way they wanted to present themselves.
However, decades later when the internet became available, I found out that they were dressing up like “Brothers (Black musicians)” and some of their music were songs from Black musicians of the US.

Most of people in Japan knew the original song was from American oldies.
But people in Japan loved the rhythm and song.

Now it became an era of internet when mass of information is available with only one click away.
It’s so fascinating for me now to find out that the original music, which once I fell in love with, turned out to be from a different country. I would never find that out if there wasn’t internet available today.

So I have been checking the original songs of big hit J POP music on the internet lately. And just recently I came across a big surprise when I found out the big hit music in 80s, which I thought was 100% original American song, turned out to be from a whole different thing!

Click the link below and listen to the music. This was a big hit song from 80s in Japan.

The music group dressed-up like from American classic movie “Grease”.

Compare the dresses of “Kiss on my eyes” to the famous music from Grease.

See? Quite resembling dress-up style, right?
So I have been naturally presuming the song “Kiss on my eyes” was originally from American oldies.
The other day, I checked it on Wikipedia on the internet, and it turned out to be the original song was from the famous classic music of German genius song composer “Beethoven”! Holy shit! Hahaha!

It does resembling if you listen to it carefully. Hahaha.
I just couldn’t stop laughing at how well Japanese music composer arranged the classic music into American like pop music. Hahaha. It’s so funny.

That’s about it for today! Have a nice laugh! Hahaha.
